Casa el Barrio was built in 1919, and is no 20, in the small hamlet of Las Cuevas. The house was lived in for many generations and passed down the family, it has been renovated recently by its current owners who are spanish and live locally, in keeping with the traditional rustic style of this area. The house has orignal beams, cane ceilings, which have been plastered over. The upstairs still has the orignal terracotta tiles, but the downstairs has been retiled, with the addition of a new kitchen and shower room. The house is situated at the end of a short track, next door is also a holiday property, owned by english people with the other two propeties further up the track being owned by spanish, who visit at weekends, or during holiday periods. Las Cuevas (which means The Caves) is a very quiet hamlet, with a daily delivery by the bread man, who sounds his horn for the spanish ladies to come out with their canvas bags and collect their requirements. The nearest shops are situated in Riogordo, a 10 minute drive away and for those wishing to visit large supermarkets there are plenty in the resort of Torre del Mar on the coast (aprox 30 mins away). Las Cuevas has a bar restaurant (Bar Ortega), which is situated on the mountain looking down onto Las Cuevas - 5 minutes by car, or an uphill walk of 20 mins – much easier and quicker on the way back ! This is an ideal property for those who wish to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and relax in the unspoilt countryside, whilst having the convenience of the coast only 30 mins drive away.

The local goatherders walk their goats nearby, you can hear the tinkle of goatbells in the distance, and from the terrace you will see them on the riverbed (which is dry throughout the summer months), some afternoons and evenings.
