This area is great for the active, outdoor life. The nearby Natural Park is a walkers paradise, as the natural flowers in Spring, the abundance of wildlife, all make this the ideal place to explore. Also there is sailing, windsurfing, horse-riding, golf, painting, and the beach at Torre del Mar just a short drive. The lake is a resovoir so no motor craft can disturb the golden silence of this area. And, the waters are well stocked with a variety of fish, especially carp. Nestled in the mountains are the pictureque white villages Viñuela, Los Romanes, Alcaucín, and further on up the mountains, Periana, Riogordo, and Comares. Here you will find little bars serving 'Tapas' or excellent restaurants with majestic views. This area is a also a great gateway to the historic cities of Andalucia. Only a two hour drive away are Granada (you must visit the Alhambra, a world heritage site) Cordoba (see the Mesquita) , Seville (so much to see) and underated Malaga is even closer.

Malaga is the nearest airport just a short 40 minute (45km) drive along a nice quiet motorway. Many budget airlines fly into Malaga from most UK airports, so inexpensive flights are easy to get. From Malaga you take the autovia going east, leave at the Velez Malaga exit. Take the Velez Malaga by-pass up to Lake Vinuela, take the Colmenar road and Los Romanes is clearly signposted a short distance to the left.
