13 May 2011. TripAdvisor has ranked Tenerife as one of the top ten family destinations in Europe in their Travellers Choice 2010 awards. Tenerife gained an increase of 8.6% in UK tourists during 2010. The popular tourist destination also benefitted from being the film location for the blockbuster Clash of the Titans.
1 May 2011. Spain enjoyed an increase in holiday makers in the first quarter 2011.
The number of holiday makers increased by almost 3% with particularly big increases from Belgium and Holland. The largest market for Spain remains the UK followed by Germany and then France. Some of the increase was attributable to the revolts in the north African countries in particular Egypt and Tunisia.
There was a swing from those staying in hotels preferring, instead, to rent holiday apartments and inland accommodation. During this quarter it was the Canary Islands that attracted the largest number of tourists followed by Cataluna and then Andalucia.
